What Do I Need to Know before My Brazilian Waxing Service?

Whether this is your first Brazilian wax or you’re a waxing pro, we want you to be as comfortable as possible. We’ve put together some do’s and don’ts to help you prepare for a successful, stress-free appointment.

What to Do to Prepare for Your Waxing Service:

  • DON’T shave for two weeks prior. For the best, most comfortable results, the hair to be waxed must be ¼ inch or longer, or at least two weeks’ worth of growth.
  • DON’T tan or lay out just before waxing. Tanning or sun exposure in the 24 to 48 hours prior to your waxing service can leave the skin more sensitive and irritable.
  • DON’T drink caffeine or alcohol before your appointment. As vasodilators, caffeine and alcohol constrict the blood vessels, which tightens pores and can make waxing more painful. If you can, avoid these substances the day of your service.
  • DON’T bother with topical numbing creams. Application can be tricky and must be done with just the right timing, and they rarely make enough of a difference to be worth it. A good waxologist and the right technique can be just as effective, if not more so!

WILL GETTING A BRAZILIAN WAX HURT?

By its very nature, waxing often involves some momentary discomfort. However, areas of sensitivity and tolerance of pain are different for everyone, and most of our clients would tell you it’s not nearly as bad as you imagine it would be. You can help minimize discomfort by staying as relaxed as possible before and during your service: Focus on slow and steady deep breaths, ask your waxologist any questions you might have, listen to upbeat music through your headphones. Often, waxing gets easier when you keep up with it, as hair grows back slower and softer.

WHAT DOES BRAZILIAN WAX AFTERCARE INVOLVE?

After your first Brazilian wax, be gentle with the area for the first few days following your service, since the skin will likely be a bit more sensitive than usual. It’s also not uncommon to see new growth sooner than you expected after your first wax. Because hair grows in three distinct cycles, it often takes a couple of appointments before all the hair is at the same growth stage. Consistent waxing leads to longer-lasting bare results.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A BRAZILIAN WAX?

Your waxologist can make a personalized recommendation for you, but most of our clients come back every 3-6 weeks. New growth needs to be at least ¼ inch, and because everyone’s hair grows at slightly different rates, waxing frequency varies.

Should I Avoid Physical Activity after Getting Waxed?

Do your best to avoid being intimate or working out immediately after a Brazilian wax service. Your skin and hair follicles should calm down within 24 to 48 hours, after which there’s less risk of irritation.

Are Stubble, Bumps, and Redness Normal after a Wax?

It is perfectly normal to see redness or bumps after a waxing service as the skin’s reaction to irritation. These effects should subside anywhere from a few hours to a few days after the service, depending on the skin’s level of sensitivity. Stubble is more common after the first waxing appointment, since hair grows in cycles. After a couple of appointments, hair will be on the same growth cycle for smoother results.
